J-CDS has provided one week support as Team Leader to a Concurrent Design study at the DLR CEF in Bremen. The purpose of the support was twofold: to introduce the concept of Concurrent Design to the new team members and to select an optimal configuration of an optical instrument on a small satellite. The week was considered very successful. The DLR team learned to use the ESA CDF-IDM, gained insight on Concurrent Design and was able to narrow the configuration options to two. More intense analysis is still needed to select the optimal configuration but the Figures of Merit were identified to be able to make a proper trade between the two options that are still on the table.
